The first state in a long line of primaires is the Land of Lincoln, Illinois.  Today voters of Illinois will cast their primary ballots.  We urge all Illinois Conservatives and Republicans to cast their primary ballots for Adam Andrzejewski for Governor, Patrick Hughes for US Senate, and the following candidates for US Congress:

Isaac Hayes (IL-2)

Michael Bendas (IL-3)

Rosanna Pulido (IL-5)

Joel Pollak (IL-9)

David McAloon (Il-11)

Theresa Kormos (IL-12)

Randy Hultgren (IL-14)

We are very proud to stand behind these strong Conservative candidates in next week’s primary and hope you will visit their respective websites to find more information about them.  All of them deserve the support and votes through Illinois today as we continue to take our country back!

Also for those in Minnesota, tonight is Caucus night!  We urge y’all to vote for Tom Emmer for Governor!

I just spent the past few days touring South Carolina .  On the first night I was there I met Lt. Governor André Bauer before he presided over Governor Mark Sanford’s final State of The State address.  I am very proud to have his support of our movement and to support his campaign for Governor of The Palmetto State.

André Bauer has now come under fire by his political enemies for a recent statement he made. However has touched upon an inconvenient truth.  There exists a vicious cycle of public dependency in this country.  Instead of giving the poor and disabled a hand up so they can become contributing members of society with the ability to climb the ladder  like everyone else, the Government is in the business of giving handouts that tie people down to the Government ball-and chain.

While I don’t live in South Carolina, the story is the same in my home state of Georgia as it is also around the country.  I know this all too well because I have experienced it as a disabled citizen. I wanted to be a radio broadcaster and study it in college.   The state Department of Rehab Services cited the fact that the chances of a blind person succeeding in broadcasting is low and refused to pay for training. Instead they pushed me down a path which lowered my self-esteem, lowered my standards, and lowered my desire to achieve. The result left me with a Associates Degree in General studies, on SSI Disability after I graduated, and locked down to the Government ball-and-chain because instead of giving me an incentive for bettering my situation, there is only reward for staying put where I am. I’m sick and tired of this and our organization is now striving to reverse this vicious cycle. André has hit the target. We must reverse the cycle for citizens now and generations to come. We deserve better!

We applaud Lt. Governor André Bauer for his leadership and willingness to stick his head out to bring light to the current situation and desire to change the way things are in this situation.

It’s morning in America and it’s morning in The Land of Lincoln. Just as there is all around the country, there are many problems and challenges that the people of Illinois face.  One of the most visible of those problems is corruption.  Illinois has become a cesspool and the butt of countless late-night jokes.  It’s time to clean up the mess with a bold leader that will lead Illinois to the great state it should be.

Adam Andrzejewski understands the problems citizens of Illinois faces and has innovative ideas and the know-how to get it done.  Adam will fight for transparency in all areas of Government. He’ll improve the Illinois economy by decreasing the state budget deficit, capping and then lowering taxes, and decreasing excessive regulation.  Adam will fight to improve education by encouraging competition through charter schools and private schools.  He also understands the great sacrifices of our brave Veterans and believes they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect when they come home.

The Can-Do Conservatives are proud to stand with Adam because with him as Governor the lives of the Disabled, as well as all citizens of Illinois will be far better off.  The Land of Lincoln deserves a great leader and Adam is the right man for the job!  We urge all Illinois Republicans to vote for Adam in the primary on February 2nd!

Dave Funk (Right) posing with Congressman Steve King (IA-5)

Yet another Iowa Congressman is in desperate need to be sent home packing.  That Rep is Leonard Boswell.   There are several Republicans running to take on the out-of-touch Boswell but we feel the man for the job is Dave Funk!  Dave Funk is a true Conservative who will stand firm to our core values and principles.  Dave Funk will fight for free market health care reform.  Dave Funk will fight for Tax reform.  Dave Funk will fight for Veterans.

We are very proud to have Dave Funk as a supporter but he doesn’t just support us – Dave Funi IS one of us.  Dave Funk is a Can-Do Conservative. After ten years as a pilot in the US Army National Guard, Dave became a pilot for Northwest Airlines.  A few years ago, Dave’s flying career came to a premature end due to a work-related neck injury.   Being disabled himself, Dave Funk understands us and will fight for us.  Therefore we are proud and honored to endorse Dave’s campaign for Congress!  We are definitely down with Dave Funk!

Steve Rathje (Left) and Brian Donegan pose by Steve's car this past September

Iowa’s 2nd District has suffered through the lack of leadership provided by David Loebsack.  While in DC Loebsack has treaded water and ignored the voices of the people while unemployment climbs and the debt grows by leaps and bounds.  We think they deserve much better!

Last week one of our original supporters, Steve Rathje officially announced his candidacy for Congress to bring leadership to IA-2 and the rest of the nation!  We have been very blesssed with Steve’s support for our movement and know that he will represent us, the citizens of the 2nd District, and the nation at large very well.  We are especially impressed with Steve’s intelligent, well thought out, and concise plans for putting Americans back to work, and solving the many problems we face.  Steve not only is the man with the plan, he has the  experience and results to back it up!  As the CEO of Internation Procurement Services, he has personally worked every day for years bringing business back to America from overseas and jobs back in the hnnds of American people!  In addition, with his father having been disabled, Steve understands the challenges we face and will not only work hard to enable the disabled, he will empower us!  Not only does Steve Rathje know what the American Dream is, he has lived it and desires to see that future generations of Americans get to realize that dream.

It is for those reasons we are very proud to enodrse a great friend, and fellow patriot Steve Rathje and his campaign for Congress!

We are very proud to announce our support for State Rep Kent Sorenson’s campaign for State Senate in Iowa’s 37th Distirct.  Kent has served one term in Iowa’s State House and is not afraid to tell it like it is and to stand firm on our core Conservative values and principles.  In fact, it was those qualities that won him his current seat without much help at all from the Iowa Republican Party (after they had spent thousands losing the race the two previous cycles).  It is a sure sign that as a party we are not going to get anywhere by retreating to the middle and surrending our core values and principles.  When we stick to our guns, as Kent Sorenson does, we win!

Kent’s next target is one of the most liberal State Senators in The Hawkeye State, Staci Appel.  We are very proud to have Kent as a supporter of our movement and we are proud he stands with us with Bob Vander Plaats in the race for Governor.  Therefore we are proud to support him.  Go get ‘em Kent!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

The  Ball has dropped (or in Atlanta’s case, The Peach), the confetti has long since been cleaned up, and the sun is setting on the first weekend of a new decade.  It will seoon be time to get back to work after a joyous Holiday season.  Boy, do we hav our work cut out for us, but I know together we can do fantastic things!

One year ago, we as Conservatives were pressing the reset button after two consecutive election cycles of taking it in the teeth.  We were looking for a new direction and hoping new leaders would come forth to take our Nation back to that “Shining City on a Hill” that President Ronald Regan spoke of.  Unfortunately none of the candidates for RNC Chair were willing reach out to the disabled.  That’s where we stepped in.

Thanks to you, in 2009 the groundwork was laid for the new decade.  The Can-Do Conservatives is now an official, legal 527 political organization and we have been represented at political events all over the country last year.  Our plan is to be represented at even more this year.

So where do we go from here?  Threee immidiate thigns are going to be happening.  First of all an account for our organization will be set up and fundraising efforts will begin soon.  Secondly, we will transition our website from a basic WordPress blog to something more fancy and professional.  Last but not least, a weekly podcast will be produced and released.  Every Wednesday, starting on January 6th, there will be a new episode of “The Can-Do Cast”  Really exciting stuff huh?

It’s going to be an exciting year.  We have lots to do if we want to make the most of it, but we look forward to the challenges ahead for us!  Stay tuned!  You’re not going to want to miss a moment!

Merry Christmas!

We want to take this moment to wish each and everyone of our supporters a very Merry Christmas!  Considering the circumstances in our nation right now it doesn’t seem so merry.  But that’s what the liberals want.  They want us to feel defeated and discouraged.  Part of their aim is to be Scrooge and ruin the most joyous time of year.  They desire to take our focus away from the greatest gift we hav ever received.  the true meaning of Christmas, the celebration of the Birth of our Savior!  Over the past few months we have plenty of examples of those who we can’t really count on when it comes right down to it.  Let us find “Comfort and joy” in the One we can always count on everytime, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  Let us all open our hearts and celebrate what is really important.

Unto us a child is born!  Unto us a Savior is given!

The following is a statement I submitted in hopes that it would be read at yesterday’s Health Care Rally in Omaha Nebraska.  Despite my best efforts and those of other supporters it just was not possible and the voices of the disabled were left unheard yet again.  That is why I have decided to publish thbe statement for the entire world to see.

Good afternoon fellow Patriots!

My name is Brian Donegan. I am the Chairman of the Can-Do Conservatives of America, a grassroots organization dedicated to giving a voice to the least represented group in the Conservative movement, the disabled. I am sorry I can’t be with y’all this afternoon but it is a long way from Georgia to Omaha on such short notice.

Just as this event was planned on short notice, the entire Health Care debate has been on short notice. Senator Reid’s attempt to ram this bill through as quickly as possible has prevented the American people from considering its ramifications. For example, though the provision to require insurance companies to cover all people, regardless of preexisting conditions, would seem to help people like me the most who cannot get coverage, we would ask a simple question: how can you cover an additional thirty million people with the same number of doctors and at the same time and spend less? Isn’t it more likely that when the money runs out, it will be the disabled and those with serious medical conditions who will be the first to have our benefits cut? We believe this bill actually holds down the very people it is supposed to give a hand up!

The health care debate has been of great concern to me because it is extremely personal to me. I was born 27 years ago legally blind, with a bilateral cleft lip and palate, and many other birth defects that I call “blessings.” My doctors and nurses tested me for every disease and disorder known to man back in 1982 but despite the fact that all of those tests came out negative, I was given six weeks to live, at best. They told my parents that if I did happen to live past six weeks that I would be a “vegetable.” At two months I developed pneumonia and my heart began to fail. I had to have emergency surgery but thanks to skill of my doctors, the love of my family, and the blessings of our Lord Jesus Christ, the surgery was successful and I am still here defying the long odds that I faced back then.

During the August recess I was able to attend a town hall meeting and I asked of my representative the same question I ask today. My burning question is that if we went “Back to the Future” and this bill that Pelosi, Reid, & Co. are trying to ram down our throats was law would the Government have deemed my life worth saving? The answer to that sobering question is sadly in the negative. That is why this issue is as personal as it gets to me.

We find ourselves aligned with Americans of all political persuasions: from Howard Dean, Keith Olberman, and the Daily Kos to independents and centrists to Rush Limbaugh and conservatives everywhere. The American people have spoken loud and clear: start the process over with open and honest debate. Any legislation that dramatically affects the life of every single American deserves at least as much, and legislation that risks the lives of society’s most vulnerable should be handled with the greatest care. That certainly doesn’t include “Dashing through the snow in a one (donkey) open sleigh” to pass the Senate version before Christmas, let alone on the eve of the most sacred of holidays.

Senator Nelson, please reconsider. 66% of Americans are opposed to the current bill. Voting for this monstrosity would not only be selling out your state, but your country as well. To my fellow Patriots, come what may we must not give up our fight! WE THE PEOPLE are in control. If not now, than at the ballot box next November!

Merry Christmas & may God bless the greatest nation on earth, the United States of America!

Brian Donegan
